About this tool

CSV is a common format for exporting data from spreadsheets and databases, but modern applications consume JSON. This converter transforms CSV to JSON directly in your browser using papaparse, the reference parser: it auto-detects the delimiter (comma, semicolon, tab, pipe), respects quoted fields containing newlines or inner commas, converts numbers and booleans to their real types, and can treat the first row as a header to produce objects or as plain rows to produce arrays. Nothing is uploaded to any server.

  • Prepare CSV datasets for scripts and prototypes

Frequently asked questions

What happens to numbers and boolean values?
The converter uses dynamic typing: values that look like numbers (30, -4.5) become numbers and true/false become booleans in the resulting JSON. Everything else stays as text.
How does it detect the delimiter?
In automatic mode it analyzes the first rows and infers the most likely separator among comma, semicolon, tab and pipe. You can also force the delimiter manually from the selector.
What does the 'first row as header' option do?
When enabled (the default), the first row defines the keys and the result is an array of objects. When disabled, each row becomes an array and the result is an array of arrays.
What if rows have a different number of columns?
That is considered malformed CSV and the tool shows an error indicating the problematic row, instead of producing inconsistent JSON.
